5 Questions to Ask Before You Hire Movers

Movers ease the stress of any relocation, but only when the right time is there. Many moving companies promise outstanding service, but only one of those names can provide the results that you expect. Ask a few questions before hiring a moving company and rest assured you’ll find the experts who rally together to ensure a simple, smooth move. What questions should you ask movers before hiring? Create a list of questions, including the five below.

1- Are You Licensed, Bonded, and Insured?

Never hire an unlicensed, uninsured moving company. They’re operating illegally and this is oftentimes bad news for the family that is relocating. Choose a licensed, insured, and bonded moving company and rest assured that your belongings are in good hands as they trek the miles to the new location.

2- Are You Experienced With My Type of Move?

Any mover can pick up your belongings and put them on a truck but you need and deserve more than that when your important belongings are on the line. Not every moving company has experience with every type of move. If your move includes pianos, antiques, large items, etc., make sure the movers provide this service and that they’ve done it more than once in the past.

3- What Type of Liability Insurance Does Your Company Carry?

Most movers provide the option to purchase additional insurance, although all companies should carry certain amounts of liability protection that keep your belongings financially protected in the event of a mishap.

4- Do You Have References Available?

Any good moving company has references available upon request. Ask for references and check with them to learn more about the movers and what to expect working with them. If the movers are unable to offer the references, continue the search for a worthwhile company.

5- Do You Offer Estimates?

Most moving companies offer free estimates upon request. Get an estimate to use to compare costs with several area movers to find the best prices. Keep in mind cost is one of many important factors to consider when choosing your movers, but there is no reason to pay more than necessary for the service.

This isn’t a complete list of questions you should ask movers before hiring a company to assist with your relocation process but is among the most important. Don’t settle for less than what you need in a moving company when it’s easy to research and find a company that exceeds expectations.
