1- Brush Your Teeth Twice Daily

No matter who you are or how old you are, brush your teeth two times every day. Never skip a brushing because bacteria sits on the teeth, where it may cause cavities, pain, and other concerns. Brushing your teeth twice per day removes plaque and tartar build-up from the teeth, prevents bad breath, and reduces the risk of developing a cavity. Brush teeth once in the morning and before bedtime using a fluoride toothpaste and soft or medium bristle toothbrush.

2- Schedule a Dental Exam

Comprehensive dental exams assess your cavity risk, which allows the dentist to recommend treatments, diet changes, and provide other useful information that can reduce those risks. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visiting the dentist twice each year to maintain the healthiest smile. Don’t slack with those dental appointments. A couple of hours visiting the dentist each year is a small price to pay for a beautiful, healthy smile.

3- Drink Fewer Sugary Drinks

Colas, tea, coffee, and other commonly consumed beverages dehydrate the body and contain no nutritional value. They’re also devastating to the teeth and our oral health. Replace these unhealthy beverages with water and consume H2O as often as possible to stay healthy, hydrated, and prevent cavities and other oral health concerns.

4- Floss Your Teeth

Make flossing a habit that goes along with your daily brushing routine. It is easy to floss once you get the hang of things and certainly improves your oral health and the way that you feel about your smile. Flossing removes bacteria, particles, and plaque that is stuck between the teeth that brushing alone cannot remove, further reducing risks of cavities.

5- Change Your Diet

The foods that you eat also impact your teeth and their overall health. People who eat unhealthy foods like processed foods and sweets have a higher risk of cavities than other people. But, that risk is one of many that people who eat unhealthy diets sustain. Changing your diet is really worth the effort.
