Why HIIT Training Works

Exercising on a regular basis is a great way to stay in good physical shape and manage stress and depression. While there are many different ways that someone can go about exercising, one of the fastest growing forms of exercise today is high intensity interval training (HIIT), which requires short bursts of high effort exercises and has been proven to provide a variety of benefits. There are several reasons why HIIT is so effective and popular with people today.

Heightened Metabolism
One of the main reasons why a HIIT exercise routine is so good for you and helps to burn fat is that it can work to increase your metabolism for hours after your exercise is over. Due to the excess post-exercise oxygen consumption, or EPOC, effect, your body will continue to burn calories after you have left the gym and gone home.

Requires More Energy
While there are benefits that last after the workout is over, your body will also burn a lot of fat while it is in motion. A HIIT exercise program will require that you use a lot of energy. This will then trigger your body to start burning body fat while you are in motion and exercising. This helps HIIT be much more effective for fat and weight loss than other types of exercise.

Period of Recovery
HIIT is also popular with people because it will build in a lot of periods of recovery. When you are exercising, there will be rotations of 30 seconds or exercise followed by 30-60 seconds of rest. During this rest period, you will be able to recover slightly to allow your body to work hard for the next exercise.

Motivation and Fun
Depending on where you work out, you could take part of HIIT classes that are sponsored by the fitness center. These exercise classes will allow you to workout very hard in a group environment and can help you stay motivated. When the workout is done, you will feel like you accomplished something as a group and you will feel very satisfied and will look forward to getting back to the gym the next time.

Time Commitment
While it has been shown to be a very good form of exercise, many people also like it because it requires far less of a time commitment than other types of exercise. Traditionally, people would go to the gym and spend an hour or more to get in a moderate amount of exercise on a treadmill or other piece of equipment. With a HIIT workout, you can get you entire warm-up, exercise, and cool-down done in 30 minutes or less. Furthermore, many exercise routines can be completed at home without the use of equipment.
